Welcome to Barn Owls
Barn Owls is part of our Shared Pathway and is a small class of six children, all with autism and communication differences. As a mixed-age and mixed-ability group, we focus on building positive relationships, encouraging cooperation, and inspiring a love of learning.
In Barn Owls, we place great importance on developing independence, communication, self-regulation, and meaningful relationships. We follow a Total Communication Approach, tailoring a combination of communication methods to suit each child’s individual needs. This ensures every child has the tools to express themselves in ways that feel natural and accessible.
Learning in Barn Owls is creative, hands-on, and engaging, with children’s personal interests at the heart of our planning. This approach helps keep them motivated, attentive, and actively involved in their learning journey. Our foundation curriculum includes the Attention Autism intervention, while English lessons are enriched with sensory stories, art-based activities, fine motor activities, and colourful semantics. Every child follows our Romans Field Curriculum, carefully adapted to their individual learning goals.
We also provide a range of targeted interventions such as TACPAC, speech and language support, fine motor skills development, and intensive interaction. Our aim is to help each child reach their full potential and develop the skills they need for adulthood.
