Romans Field School

Building Success Together - to help us all become the best version of ourselves.

Maths

At Romans Field School, we currently deliver the maths curriculum through a Mastery approach to teaching using the White Rose Scheme of Learning as the basis for our teaching. This approach enables our children to develop their reasoning, investigative and problem solving skills. Alongside maths sessions, we provided cross-curricular opportunities to develop pupils’ mathematical fluency. The intent for our curriculum is to enable every child to develop a sound understanding of Maths, equipping them with the skills of calculation, reasoning and problem solving that they need for their future academic journey and for use in life beyond school.

The White Rose Maths SOLs are designed to give sufficient time for teachers to explore and understand concepts in depth, rather than covering it superficially and then returning several times. The schemes interweave prior content with new concepts. This practice and consolidation helps children to grasp the links between topics and to understand them more deeply.

Daily opportunities to reinforce number fluency throughout the year are planned for in additional maths time during the day by class teams.

"Mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas." - Albert Einstein.

"Arithmetic is being able to count to twenty without taking your shoes off." - Mickey Mouse.

"Nature is written in mathematical language." - Galileo Galilei.

With maths you can be any of these and more: bank manager, economist, cyber intelligence officer, air traffic controller.
