Career's

Careers education is essential for the pupils at Romans Field Primary and Secondary school because it empowers pupils to recognise their strengths, explore their aspirations, and prepare for a life of greater independence and purpose. Many pupils with SEND and SEMH diagnoses face barriers to accessing meaningful work or further education. We recognise that careers education is not just about job outcomes, but about building key skills to enable our pupils to be as independent as they can be based on their own unique contexts. Skills such as confidence, communication skills, resilience, and self-belief are vital to instil. Careers education provides structured opportunities for pupils across our three pathways (Shared, Structured and Scaffolded) to understand the world around them, make informed choices, and visualise their place in the community in a way that is meaningful to them. By starting early and tailoring provision to individual needs and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and Individual Learning Plan (IEP) outcomes, we give our pupils the best chance of achieving personal success and a smooth transition into adulthood, whether through supported living, further education, training, volunteering or employment. Careers learning is guided by statutory frameworks including the SEND Code of Practice (2015), which emphasises the importance of preparing young people with SEND for a successful transition to adulthood, including employment.

At Primary School level, our pupils will engage with stage-appropriate Careers days that allow them to explore their passions and interests and develop essential life skills. Careers learning is linked throughout the curriculum and builds vocabulary and life-skills progressively.

For secondary pupils, we align our provision with the Gatsby Benchmarks, ensuring a structured, personalised, and meaningful programme of employer engagement, careers guidance, and curriculum links. Pupils engage in community and class based learning that will prepare them for accessing the wider world safely and meaningfully.
