Romans Field School

Building Success Together - to help us all become the best version of ourselves.

Welcome to Romans Field School

Welcome Back - We're excited for the activities and events taking place this term, look out for more details.

Welcome to Romans Field School, our school is a Special School for children aged 5 to 11. All our children have an EHCP plan, and we cater for children with a range of needs including ASC, Communication and Interaction, SEMH and Complex Needs. In September 2022, our PAN (Pupil Admission Number) increased from 50 to 66.

Romans Field School is part of the Inclusive Learning Federation, which also includes two mainstream primary schools within our local area, Priory Common School, and Bradwell Village School, within our local area.

All three schools work closely together, sharing expertise and experience to support all our children. We pride ourselves on incorporating state-of-the-art resources within our lessons and providing access to all the opportunities that their peers experience, locally and nationally, to prepare them for life. Where appropriate, children who are ready to access mainstream provision are provided with opportunities to transition back into mainstream education, following a personalised timetable to achieve success.

We are a nurturing school with an inclusive family ethos at the heart of all we do. Staff at Romans Field School are confident and skilled in building positive relationships that help to break down barriers, nurture self-esteem and challenge disaffection. Our staff work with tireless devotion to ensure our children, who have previously found school a real challenge, become resilient, independent, lifelong learners and are able to take ownership and regulation of their behaviours, both in school and within society.

We believe, no matter what path the children have taken prior to coming to Romans Field School, by Building Success Together, we can support our children to develop the knowledge, skills, and character to make the most of their life chances, socially, emotionally and academically. We achieve this by working in partnership with parents, carers and external agencies to provide a wealth of experience and opportunities which encourage every child to achieve their full potential.

We constantly adapt our curriculum by being creative; carefully evaluating our children’ strengths and needs. We have placed importance on promoting personal development, becoming confident and competent in reading, writing and maths, developing creativity and promoting the importance of physical activity.

The children at Romans Field School follow three distinct pathways: Shared, Structured and Scaffolded.  Using the National Curriculum and our own adapted RF curriculum as the basis for these. Alongside these pathways, our children have access to a sensory diet made up of sensory spaces, resources, breaks and activities as and when required.

Our Pathways

Shared: Using a combination of the Engagement model and our individualised RF Curriculum this pathway is predominantly a child-led approach with an emphasis on engagement, regulation, interaction, and early development. Students follow basic routines and structure, with a total-communication approach to enable them to learn as effectively as possible.

Structured: The children here often have a lower starting point and continue to follow the RF Curriculum using a highly structured, personalised approach to learning.

Scaffolded:  The children here follow a more traditional approach to learning and are predominantly on the National Curriculum at a level appropriate for their academic ability.

Everyone at Romans Field School makes every effort to provide each child with the necessary care and support to feel safe, be happy and achieve success.

Our values are: Respect, Honesty, Empathy and Perseverance

I feel honoured and privileged in leading Romans Field and its fantastic, dedicated staff, enabling our children to overcome their barriers to learning and life, and to optimise their potential

 Many thanks

 Steven Tysom (Head of School)
