Herons
Herons, are one of the two secondary classes at Romans Field School where the students primary need is Autism.
In Herons, our primary focus is communication with significant input in developing independence and regulation. We endeavour to embed a love of learning and engagement for all our students. We strive to ensure that all our students reach their full potential and are prepared for their lives as adults, safely accessing the local community.
Heron’s class team provide a creative, structured and exciting approach to learning which scaffolds attention, learning and engagement. We deliver our foundation subject curriculum which includes History, Geography, Art and Music as examples, through the Attention Autism approach. While our English lessons are delivered through sensory stories, fine motor activities, Read Writ Inc, Phonics and Colourful Semantics.
The students in Herons follow the Romans Field Curriculum, which provides individual learning goals for each student. We also offer a range of interventions, such as: TACPAC, Teacch, Intensive Interaction and Speech and Language interventions.
In Herons, we prioritise the regulation, happiness, safety and well-being of all the students at all times and provide a nurturing, caring and supportive environment to enable Heron’s students to flourish.
