Welcome to Romans Field School
Welcome to Romans Field School. The value we are all working on this half term is that of ‘Respect’. In particular, when thinking about the feelings, wishes, or rights of others.
Welcome to Romans Field School
Romans Field School is a small school with a big heart. We are a maintained Special Needs School situated in West Bletchley, Milton Keynes. Our Primary Provision (5 to 11) caters for up to 66 children with a range of identified needs which include Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Communication and Interaction difficulties, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Complex Needs, ADHD, and PDA. Our Secondary Provision (11 to 16) caters for up to 24 children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). All the children who attend Romans Field School have an EHCP.
Collaborative Community
Our school is part of the Inclusive Learning Federation, which also includes two mainstream primary schools in our local area, Priory Common School, and Bradwell Village School. This partnership allows us to collaborate effectively using shared expertise, resources, and experiences to ensure that all our children, regardless of their needs, can access the opportunities and support they require to thrive. At Romans Field School all achievement is a collaboration working in partnership with parents, carers and external agencies allowing us to provide a wealth of experience and opportunities encouraging every child to achieve their full potential.
Our Approach
At Romans Field we are committed to ‘Building Success Together - to help us all become the best version of ourselves.’
We are a nurturing school with an inclusive family ethos at the heart of all we do. We believe, no matter what path the children have taken prior to coming to Romans Field School, that every child deserves the chance to become the best version of themselves. Staff at Romans Field School are confident and skilled in building positive relationships and using a holistic child-centred approach to education, designed to break down barriers, nurture self-esteem, and empower our children to become resilient, independent, and lifelong learners. Our staff work with tireless devotion to ensure our children develop the knowledge, skills, and character they need to optimise their life chances, both socially and academically, and are able to take ownership and regulation of their behaviours, both in school and within society.
We constantly adapt our curriculum by being creative; carefully evaluating our children's strengths and needs. We have placed importance on promoting personal development, becoming confident and competent in reading, writing and maths, developing creativity and promoting the importance of physical activity. We pride ourselves on incorporating state-of-the-art resources within our lessons and providing access to all the opportunities that their peers experience, locally and nationally, to prepare them for life. Where appropriate, children who are ready to access mainstream provision are provided with opportunities to transition back into mainstream education, following a personalised timetable to achieve success.
Therapy and Community Support
In addition to our academic focus, we also place a strong emphasis on providing comprehensive therapy support and fostering a sense of community. Our team of Psychotherapists, Behaviour Specialists and Pastoral Support Team work closely with students and families to improve their life chances and ensure they feel supported every step of the way.
Pathways to Success
At Romans Field School, we have developed a curriculum that is tailored to the unique needs and abilities of our children. We offer three distinct pathways – Shared, Structured, and Scaffolded – each of which is designed to provide the appropriate level of support and challenge, ensuring that each child can progress at their own pace and reach their full potential. Alongside these pathways, our children have access to a sensory diet made up of sensory spaces, resources, breaks and activities as and when required.
Shared: Using a combination of the Engagement model and our individualised RF Curriculum this pathway is predominantly a child-led approach with an emphasis on engagement, regulation, interaction, and early development. Students follow basic routines and structure, with a total-communication approach to enable them to learn as effectively as possible.
Structured: The children here often have a lower starting point and continue to follow the RF Curriculum or National Curriculum using a highly structured, personalised approach to learning.
Scaffolded: The children here follow a more traditional approach to learning and are predominantly on the National Curriculum at a level appropriate for their academic ability.
Our Values
At the heart of Romans Field School are our core values of honesty, respect, empathy, and perseverance. These values guide our actions and shape the inclusive, supportive environment that we strive to create for our students, families, and the wider community.
We are committed to being at the heart of our local community, working collaboratively to ensure that our students have the best possible opportunities to succeed and thrive.
Empathy - We strive to understand the experiences and perspectives of our children, their families, and our colleagues. By cultivating empathy, we can provide the tailored support and understanding that each child needs to thrive.
Honesty - We believe in being transparent and truthful in our communication with all stakeholders. We are committed to building trust and fostering an environment where everyone feels safe to express their thoughts and concerns.
Respect - We treat all members of our school community with dignity and consideration. We celebrate diversity and encourage our children to respect themselves, others, and the world around them.
Perseverance - We recognise that the journey to success is not always easy, but we are dedicated to supporting our children as they overcome challenges and setbacks. By modelling and encouraging perseverance, we help our children develop the resilience they need to achieve their goals.
Everyone at Romans Field School makes every effort to provide each child with the necessary care and support to feel safe, be happy and achieve success.
I feel honoured and privileged to lead Romans Field and its fantastic, dedicated staff, enabling our children to overcome their barriers to learning and life, and to optimise their potential.
I invite you to explore our school and discover how we can build success together. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
